Seven Stars

Seven stars fell from the sky,
On a crystal winter day;
Seven lives...Seven souls,
Forever gone away.

They soared across the heavens,
And danced among the stars;
They gazed upon the distant earth,
From a vantage point afar.

Seven souls among us,
Following a dream;
To travel into distant space,
To go where few have been.

Another day of mourning,
With many tears to cry;
Whisper now a quiet prayer,
Seven stars fell from the sky.

Allison Chambers Coxsey, 2003

"The same Creator who names the stars also knows
the names of the seven souls we mourn today.

The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return
safely to earth but we can pray they are safely home."

~ President George W. Bush ~
